Ramsey youth centre goes sailing

Since Jan 2009 Chaos youth centre in Ramsey have been working with a group of 9 young people aged 13-15yrs. Over this time we learnt about the environment by helping out at the local nature reserve, which is part of the Great Fen project. The group was also aimed and helping the young people to increase their confidence and learn to work as a team. As the final challenge the youth workers Dibs Fletcher, Mel Cursons and Carol Chapman took them on a Sailing trip 2nd -4th Oct, out on an old fishing smack off the Norfolk Coast, with the Cirdan Trust. All of this work has gone into a portfolio to submit for their citizenship in action Award.

Young People's comments:

“It was really fun out at sea.”

“I liked being able to sail a boat on rough seas.”

“I’ve learned how to live and work with other people as a team.”

“I loved it when the boat was rocking and we were all singing.”

We are really proud of all the young people as they have really developed throughout this project and supported each other when they were nervous or afraid of a new challenge.
