Second Step Project
In a project called "Second Step" 13 young people from Bottisham recently took part in a residential project at Mepal Outdoor Centre near Chatteris.
In it's third year of operation the project aims to help the transition from primary to secondary school and this year it also involved some year 11 students acting as buddies to the younger year 6 students. The project was funded by Children and Young People's Services and was a partnership between youth workers, the Education Welfare Officer and the Parent Support Adviser.
The Residential part of the project enabled the young people to try archery, fencing, high ropes, kayaking, raft building and other team building exercises. During the previous week the group had taken part in a treasure hunt, arts and craft activities and sports at Bottisham Village College.
"It's been really good because everyone is really kind and it helps you find your way around school" said Tom, one of the year 6 students while Jazz from year 11 said " It's a new experience working with people younger than yourself and it been very interesting…. and great fun."
A similar activity has been taking place with another group from Soham Village College.
