Trumpington Rec 2 Rec

Week 1

The South City Locality youth team set off on an ambitious task to engage and entertain the young people of Cambridge by working with them in their communities on a rec based summer programme.

First up was Trumpington where we worked with the City Council CHYPPS team, the young people and the local community to have an amazing week of art, sport, cooking and much more. Highlights included the Rock 2 Roll mobile climbing wall, it was great to see young people really testing themselves and encouraging others to overcome fears of heights or rather fears of falling off from a great height.

A big Wednesday event which included many activities balloon modeling, face painting, a non alcoholic cocktail bar, and the raptor foundation. The star of the show though was the Mega slide (see picture) which showed you can think of as many creative and diverse activities to do with young people as possible but you can’t beat a good old 30ft inflatable slide, it was all about the Megaslide on big Wednesday.

We finished the week off with a celebration BBQ which was cooked with the young people and was a really nice way to finish off the week. The week went very well we had some excellent weather, did some really fun activities and it was almost good enough for me to forget the world cup.

Thank you to everyone that helped out including the youth staff, CHYPPS team, Karl from Rock 2 Roll and all the young people that came along to make the week happen.
