New Drop-in for Young People in Ely
A new weekly drop-in service for young people will open in Ely this week. It will take place every Thursday (from 23rd February onwards) at the Cathedral Centre from 6pm to 8pm and is being run in partnership by the County Council’s Youth Support Service, Ely Cathedral and Centre 33.
Young people will be able to get advice and support on a wide range of issues from housing and money, to places to go and things to do in and around Ely. They will also be able to access free counselling, free wifi, the C-Card scheme, or just drop in for a cup of tea and a chat. Young people attending the drop-in will take part in allocating funding for fun activities for young people in Ely which will be arranged for school holidays and other times they choose.
This new service is funded through the Cambridgeshire County Council ‘transformation’ fund which was created to attempt to fill some of the gaps left by the removal of funding from universal youth support services (including youth clubs) and to help organisations to set up or change with the aim of creating provision across the county that can stand on its own feet without County Council help beyond March 2013. We will be recruiting volunteers to help run the drop-in – anyone interested in getting involved can contact Rich Rippin 01223 566658.
Rich Rippin from Centre 33 said “We’re delighted to have the opportunity, in partnership with the Youth Support Service and the Cathedral, to offer young people in around Ely a place where they can get access to information and support, as well as meeting with others and having fun”
