Murrow and Parson Drove Youth Clubs Quiz night

On Friday 8th March 2013 young people, youth workers and community members gathered together for a fundraising Quiz Night. The quiz was in aid of Murrow and Parson Drove youth clubs and was organised by the Murrow and Parson Drove Action for Youth Committee.

The committee consists of Youth Support Service staff, young people, Parish Council representatives, parents and community members and work together to support the youth clubs and youth provision in these two rural Fenland villages. The committee are working together to gain sustainability for the externally funded youth clubs.

The quiz night has become a regular event throughout the last year or so and has been well attended by young people, families and community members. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it and raised a fantastic total of £147.51 for the youth clubs.

During the evening refreshments were served by young people, the young people helped with the raffle and had also prior to the event set some of the questions for the quiz itself. This covered a range of subjects such as sport, tv shows, music, the Queen and also events that have happened on the date 8th March. During the evening members also remembered Councillor Robert Schrimshaw, who passed away sadly earlier this year. Robert had always been a dedicated member of the committee and had been the quiz master at the past two quiz nights held.

The committee would like to thank everyone who has supported the youth clubs and those who attended the event, as well as local businesses; Top to Toe, North Brink Chiropractic Health and Beauty and Paul Burgess (AA driving school instructor) for donating prizes for the event.

Lead youth worker Laura stated 'the quiz night was great fun and it was nice to see people from different age groups and backgrounds mixing together and supporting such important and needed youth provision within these rural villages. We hope to hold many more events to raise much needed funds and to continue the youth clubs'.

The committee are now busy planning future fundraising events such as a bingo, Summer event, car wash and also running the refreshments at the annual Car and Bike Show in Parson Drove in July.
