10/01/2019 - Looking for work experience

10/01/19 - Female, 15 :

†Hi, I'm looking for work experience opportunities to do in my spare time but can't seem to find any!

Ali says -

Thank you for asking Ali about how to find a suitable work experience placement.

The first thing you could try could be to go and talk to a member of staff at your school or college, for some advice.† Itís likely that there is a post 16 advisor linked with you school who will be able to advise you and sign post you towards some opportunities close to where you live. If you are wanting to organise your own work experience, it might be beneficial to talk to parents or family friends to see if they can offer you a work experience placement.

If you have a definite view on the type of work e.g.† office work, working with children, animals, outdoors then it would make sense to look for work experience in that sector- again seek the advice of your teachers who will be able to help you to consider the skills and qualities you have as an individual that will inform your choices

Good luck and remember that volunteering is also a good way to gain transferable skills and to begin to explore the world of work.† If youíre in year 11 then the National Citizens Service is an exciting opportunity for young people to explore volunteering and skills for work.† Here is the link to their website https://www.ncsyes.co.uk/† and if you want to book an NCS place or to find out more about NCS in Cambridgeshire you can email Kim.Jeffries@cambridgeshire.gov.uk †
