Trainee Plant Operator

Pay:

£9.95 per hour flat rate prior to NVQ, £10.94 per hour plus overtime, bonus and travel money after NVQ award.

Hours:

Spring/ Summer 6.45am - 7pm with 2 x 30 minute unpaid breaks. Autumn and winter will be daylight hours, going down to 8 hours per day in December and January. Currently planned at 5 days per week but Saturday mornings may be required in future.

Ages:

18+ due to the working hours that are required for the role.

Job Description:

The company you will be working for deal with providing subcontract earthworks capabilities to the main contractors engaged on the national motorway network construction programmes. The work you will be involved in will be on the A14 Improvement scheme between the Girton and Swavesey junction. Trainees will operate 30 - 50 ton off road articulated dump trucks hauling earth between sites along off road haul roads. Trainees are likely to have previous experience of operating heavy equipment e.g farm tractors, HGV units etc.

Training:

A 1 week training course leading to a CPCS red card is provided on commencement followed by close supervision and assessment. NVQ assessment will take place after a minimum of 300 hours work leading to the award of NVQ level 2 and a CPCS blue card.

Qualifications:

You should have an Engineering or HGV/ Driving background or have an interest in operating plant work. You will be able to follow instructions, have positive attitude to safety and able to communicate well at all levels. You should have a flexible approach to work. You should be a strong team player with good time keeping and willing to work overtime as necessary. You should have the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines culture. A willingness to work to strict health and safety rules is essential. Own transport is a requirement as the contract is 10km long and operatives will be required to report to and work anywhere along the length of the scheme.

Prospects:

This is an excellent vacancy to gain experience as a Plant Operator, if you already have experience of operating heavy equipment e.g farm tractors, HGV units etc. Further progression on to operating more complex equipment is available for those showing the right aptitude for the work. Salary equivalent over a full year will be £29 - £32k when qualified.
