Job Description:

This hospital are currently recruiting Health Care Assistants to work at their Maternity Unit. Approximately 2200 babies are born within the maternity service provided at the Hinchingbroke Site. They are proud of their maternity unit which boasts a co-located birth centre, a pool room and newly modernised bereavement suite. You will be helping the registered nurses plan and deliver care, a large part of your work is giving 'up close and personal care'. This often means very 'up close' and very 'personal'. You'll also monitor patients' conditions and pain control, take and record vital signs; obtain specimens; and assist with wound care. Some of the work is physically and mentally demanding and it doesn't suit everyone. You may be working with some very sick patients who may be confused and can show challenging behaviour at times.

In house training. Relevant NVQ Level 2 qualification, equivalent to one day a week.

You do not need any qualifications, although you must have basic literacy and numeracy skills and willing to undertake NVQ Level II or achieve equivalent competence. What is important is your motivation to enter the caring profession and cope with the mental and physical demands of the job including working throughout the 24 / 7 working week. You might have experience of caring for sick adults or children either at work, as a volunteer or caring for your own family or friends.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a Maternity Care Assistant role. You will be working for a large employer and for the right candidate there will be the opportunity to progress.
