Meadows boy's group gets the go ahead

The planning for a boy's cookery group and community project is now in full flow after being successfully awarded £1000 in funding from Young Lives.

The six boys aged 10 and 11 yrs put forward their proposal to a Dragon's Den style youth panel and were thrilled to be awarded the maximum amount for their group.

The need was highlighted through conversations between the County Council, City Council, local residents and police following a spate of anti social behaviour in and around the Meadows Community Centre in Arbury.

The boys themselves identified the need for more positive activities in the area to relieve their boredom and discourage them from becoming involved in anti social behaviour. They also wanted to develop a project that would work towards improving the image of local young people whilst paying some thing back to their community.

The boys agreed on a cookery group. This will involve cookery lessons, qualifying for a Food Hygiene certificate and finally holding a community fundraising event for charity where they'll be able to put their new skills in the kitchen into practice.
