Squad 14 gain Awards

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service and Wisbech Locality (Cambridgeshire County Council) has worked with a group of six Wisbech youngsters, aged between 11 and 15. This started on the 16th February (2014) and they finished Squad 14 with a pass out parade on the 28th May.

The aim of the project was to to discover more about what the fire service does and what being a firefighter involves.

As well as increasing knowledge around arson and the impact of this upon the community and service, an awareness of crime and offending and the consequences of such behaviour, looking at the effects of anti-social behaviour on the community and raising aspirations of young people.

The project offered real experiences in a front line service and developing self-esteem and self-discipline through activities, team work and experiencing the structure of a disciplined service.

The qualifications that the young people received were First Aid, Water Rescue and ASDAN award. This  was funded by CFRS’s Community Fund following a bid by Cambridgeshire County Council’s Wisbech Locality Team.
